Preparing for 2020 taxes

Last March, when everything shut down, we stopped taking appointments. Clients were able to mail in, drop off, or use our electronic portal. In order to keep us and our clients safe, we are going to continue to do it this way this tax year.

We have worksheets on our website to help you out.  If you are claiming dependents, please print and fill out the dependent sheet on the worksheet page, or we will have one in the office when you drop off. Our office can be fined up to $540 without that being filled out.

Our office will open for taxes on January 16th. The website will be updated at that time as well. We are changing our hours to Monday through Thursday 9-5, Friday and Saturday 9-2. You can drop off while we are here or use the locked drop box on the front porch anytime without an appointment. Returning clients do not need to include last year’s taxes. When your taxes are complete, we will contact you. If you already have an appointment, you can drop them off then or at any time.

Things to note:
-If you received unemployment during 2020, we will need the 1099 from the government. It is considered income.
-New this year, if you do not itemize, you are still able to deduct up to $300 in charitable contributions. Please let us know if you can do that.
-We will also need the amount you received for your stimulus. You should receive a letter giving you the amount. This will not affect your taxes.
-The 10% early withdrawal penalty from your 401K has been lifted for 2020. You will still need to pay the income taxes on the amount taken out.
-Just a reminder to our business owners, 1099?s and W-2?s are due out February 1st this year.

We look forward to a very interesting year! Erin will be doing double duty as her kids will be here virtual learning. Thank goodness for small family-owned businesses. We appreciate you supporting us!!
